03 Sep PADI Specialty of the month: AWARE Shark Conservation Diver
Take our AWARE Shark Conservation Diver specialty in September and receive an 8% discount on our course fee.
The AWARE Shark Conservation Diver Specialty is one of the specialties that has been developed by Project AWARE. The magnificent sharks are unfortunately under threat. 30% of sharks species are threatended or near threatened with extinction. The hammerhead shark population for example, has declined by 89% since 1986.
Sharks play a key role in the marine ecosystem. Without them our reefs are under threat. They are crucial to maintain healthy marine eco systems. They keep a balance among prey species as they are at the top of many food chains. They remove sick, injured and deceased animals. Our beautiful colourful reefs with its great variety in marine life is mainly thanks to them!
In this PADI Specialty you will learn more about the status of sharks in the world, what the major threats are to the shark population and what can be done about the conservation of sharks. You will also learn what you can contribute.
Additionally you will learn more about the unique physical attributes of sharks and will learn to recognise them. You will make 2 dives as part of your course in a dive spot where we see them more frequently.
